What is Hypnosis?

According to Wikipedia, hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness and an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestion.

Most people have been hypnotized many times. For example, when they are driving and pass an exit because their mind wandered, or when engrossed in a television program, they've been in a state of hypnosis.

During hypnosis, a person has heightened focus and concentration. The person can concentrate intensely on a specific thought or memory, while blocking out sources of distraction. When hypnotised, people are more receptive to suggestions. Hypnotists use a procedure known as a hypnotic induction involving a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions to help their clients become hypnotized.

Clinical hypnotists use hypnosis to help people with their everyday problems.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

If you want to be hypnotized, can pay attention, and can follow instructions, you can be hypnotised.

Will I lose control?

Rather than losing control, hypnosis is about helping you take control of parts of your life that you are having trouble controlling. While in hypnosis, you will remember everything that happens, and if you don't like what you are being told, you will ignore it.
